Questions about editorial photography

  • How many recipes do you shoot in one day?

    That depends on how complex the dishes are and how many images you need per recipe. For a cookbook or magazine, five to ten dishes a day is typical. In the briefing we make a schedule that is feasible without compromising on quality.

  • Do you cook the recipes yourselves?

    Yes. Our food stylists prepare every dish in our own kitchens, based on your recipes. They know how to keep a dish looking good under the lights for just long enough. If you’d like us to develop or test recipes as well, that’s possible too.

  • How do you keep a consistent style across a whole book?

    Before the shoot we agree a moodboard and style guide together: light, surfaces, tableware, colour palette and camera angles. Every shoot day we work to that guide, so the first and the last recipe look as if they came from the same kitchen.

  • Can you also make step-by-step images?

    Absolutely. Besides the final shot, we photograph the key steps of the preparation, from the ingredients to serving. Those images help readers recreate the recipe and also work well on social media and your website.

  • Do you also deliver images for social media and web?

    Yes. During an editorial shoot we gladly make extra crops and formats, such as vertical for Instagram and TikTok or horizontal for your website. That way you get more out of a single production day.
